if you want to restore system auto, check EC support and then select system auto again. when its unchecked you cannot switch it, so set the manual speed first, then uncheck EC support and you're good to go. however what EC support does, it allows you to change the fans from system auto to manual. you need to go to 'program' then 'settings' then in the 'safety' tab you uncheck 'EC Support' and then you have no more crashes. ![]() some laptops such as mine, will shut off when playing a game and the fans are controlled by this program. ![]() it all seems too good and easy, well thats because theres more to it. If you want to return to normal, click 'system auto'. Choose a speed then click the 'manual' button which will set the speed. Click that and you can control your fans. Firstly, you open the program, click 'sensors', then at the bottom is a small fan icon. Then you can control both fans at the same time (you cannot control them separately). But anyway, the solution is to download a fan control software NOT speedfan. Like you, I bought my laptop (M17x-R4) the fans worked fine, kicked in full power when I played games. ![]() It's just how it is I'm afraid but there is a way to get around it. In my opinion, Alienware laptops are flawed when it comes to their fan profiles.
